For Digna Micaller, simplicity is the best policy. “Di tayo kailangan maging technical.”
Though relatively new to the insurance industry, Digna has definitely found a niche. Insured since her twenties, she’s experienced firsthand its benefits for her family -a memory that helps her connect powerfully to customers of any age.
Now, as an FWD financial wealth planner, she’s successfully spreading her advocacy of clarity one client at a time.
So, what’s the secret to Digna’s success? For her, simplicity is the best policy. She appreciates that FWD’s plans are simply written, jargon-free and easy to understand.
This is especially true for Digna’s young clients, who grew up in a noisy world with a barrage of online choices.
“Sa kabataan ngayon, importante kasi na ‘yung clarity. Hindi kailangan maging technical tayo,” ‘(Clarity is important to young people these days. We don’t need to get too technical.)
Digna’s values align well with FWD’s constant push for clarity. We use visuals and everyday words. We avoid fine print and hidden clauses and strive to make even complex information as straightforward as possible to help people better understand their insurance. When you know the ins and outs of your policy, you’ll understand why it’s useful and necessary. So, you can choose with more confidence, and less worries.
For her part, Digna prioritizes understanding every client’s needs, so that she can help them choose the plan most suitable for them. Of course, the budget is also taken into consideration. But, since FWD’s plans are customizable, it’s easy to build an affordable plan that meets your needs.
It’s easy for Digna to convince others about insurance, because she’s been a believer for decades. “As early as ‘yung first job ko, at age 21, meron na akong life insurance. (As early as my first job, at age 21, I already had life insurance.)”
Fully paid and added to over the years, Digna’s life insurance came in handy years later when the company she and her husband worked for shut down - just as their children’s college tuition was due. Her insurance saved them. With funds redeemed from the policy, they were able to bridge the gap and stay debt-free.
Digna’s husband once made a humorous comment about why they need insurance. “’Yun ngang sasakyan natin may insurance. Bakit tayo wala? (Our car has insurance. Why not us?)”
Sounds funny, but it’s true. Car insurance is legally required in the Philippines. But is our daily, depreciating ride really worth protecting more than our long-term health and finances? We can’t always control what happens to us, but we can make sure we’re prepared for anything that might.
Now, Digna’s on a mission to make people understand the importance of being insured.
“Life insurance is hindi lang mapapakinabangan ng family mo pag namatay tayo.…Eto ‘yung buhay ka pa, pag nangangailangan ka ng fund, hindi ka na mangungutang kung kani-kanino.” (Life insurance is not just for our families when we die. You can enjoy it while you’re still alive. When you really need funds, you won’t need to search for someone to borrow from.)”
As Digna explains to young clients, insurance is a promise you can rely on. Through unplanned expenses, emergency medical bills and the other shocks life can bring, you enjoy peace of mind knowing you’re covered.
Paying for premiums at a young age makes sense because it’s much more affordable. Even though might not need most of the benefits at this age, you’ll end up thanking yourself later. Why? Because people’s needs change over time.
As we get older, the need for funds becomes more apparent. Your savings or property might not be enough. In Digna’s case, being insured means she won’t burden her children when she retires. The premiums she paid in her youth will come back, multiplied several times over. As a mother, this puts her at ease, knowing that any potential load has already been lifted off her kids’ shoulders.
Digna understands how simply written policies with transparent benefits help clients take action.
“Kailangan bago tayo maghiwalay, naiintidihan mo ‘yung produkto na bibilhin mo. Mas madaling habulin yung mga goals sa buhay pag alam mo kung nasaan ‘yung pera, saan at papaano kukunin pag kailangan. May peace of mind tayo.” (Before we part ways, it’s important for me that you understand the product you’re buying. It’s easier to chase our goals when you understand where your money’s going, where and how to get it if you need to. That gives all of us peace of mind.)
