With the goal of ensuring that every Filipino feels seen and supported, FWD conducted its first ever market study about Pinoy gamers, aiming to understand the habits, behaviors, and views about money, health, and insurance of the Filipino gaming community. The insights gained were eye-opening.
943 gamers, aged 18 to 50 years old, and classified into 5 segments ranging from Fans (34%), Casuals (30%), Enthusiasts (20%), Influencers (13%), to Pros (4%), took part in our study which revealed compelling insights on top life goals and financial priorities with Fans showing a strong interest in building their own houses (73%), while Enthusiasts aim to establish their own businesses (70%).
Of the top 10 financial products owned by gamers, having a bank account tops the list with life insurance coming in second. But, curiously, while 85% of gamers recognize the importance of insurance, and 73% claim they do need insurance, only 3 in 10 gamers have taken steps to safeguard their financial well-being by owning life insurance. Among those who do not own insurance, 2 in 5 have little to no knowledge about the products, hindering their ability to make informed financial decisions about insurance.
When it comes to health, although the majority of gamers surveyed rate their overall health status as at least good, many grapple with gaming-related concerns, such as eye/vision problems (41%), insomnia (17%), and migraine (15%). Some have also mentioned experiencing mental issues during a losing streak, strained relationships, or even financial mishaps.
When we explored the financial priorities of Pinoy gamers, we saw immense potential for a synergy between their gaming expertise and managing their finances.
