The holidays are upon us, and with the pandemic still very much an ongoing reality, most of us are wondering—is it really Christmas if we can’t all gather in one room with our friends and loved ones to celebrate? While this December may not be the same as the Decembers of our past, that shouldn’t stop us from putting our party hats on. We all need a little boost in positivity from all that has happened during this year, after all. But since gathering in enclosed spaces is still very much discouraged, here we have compiled a list of virtual party themes that you and your loved ones can engage in so you can up the ante on your upcoming zoom party.

Game Night

Get competitive with your friends and loved ones with a game show-themed party night. You can always go for the party classics such as Pictionary or charades, but to make it more exciting, why not hire a professional host to come up with a whole program of games? You can also include a themed trivia show, a la Jeopardy, or if you’re feeling a little risque (for adults only!), go for the online versions of Cards Against Humanity. Compete in teams or in pairs, and have prizes read for the winners to level up the stakes for your game night.

Virtual Tours

Were you planning on celebrating the holidays abroad before the whole pandemic started? Gather up your travel buddies and go on a virtual tour for now. Look for museums that host virtual tours, or go on AirBnB where you can currently book unique online travel experiences with hosts from all over the world. Make pasta with an Italian grandma, walk through Prague with a costumed Plague Doctor, or go on a guided meditation with a Japanese Buddhist monk.

Dance Party

Learn a choreography from a dance instructor, do zumba, play choreography guessing games, or just create a whole playlist of dance music that you can all have a dance marathon to. Dance parties are a great and festive way to get the blood pumping, and it’s great for the whole family, too. You’ll feel less guilty with your holiday midnight snacking if you have a dance party lined up this Christmas.

Fashion Exchange

For fashion-lovers who feel guilty about hoarding new clothes during the lockdown, here’s a great way to downsize or add some variety to your closet. Host a virtual fashion runway and have your guests bid on each other’s clothes. You can even have a follow-up party once you’ve all received your bids.

Memory Lane Slideshow Party

Missing out on all the big family reunions that you’ve come to expect during the holidays? Gather up your family from all parts of the world and get ready to share your old Christmas reunion photos. via a nostalgic slideshow. Prepare all the Christmas hits, eat together (virtually, of course), and have a laugh going down memory lane to ease the homesickness.
